This made unpacking so much more organized for me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I used different colored markers for different rooms &#8211; blue for kitchen stuff, red for bedroom, etc. This made it super easy for the movers to know where to put each box.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also guys, rate the priority of unpacking on the box! This was such a game changer. I marked boxes as &#8220;Unpack First,&#8221; &#8220;Unpack Soon,&#8221; or &#8220;Storage&#8221; so I knew which ones to tackle right away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Pack_Kitchen_Pantry\"><\/span>Pack Kitchen &amp; Pantry<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The kitchen was by far the trickiest area to pack. All those oddly shaped appliances and fragile dishes!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For plates, stack them vertically like records instead of flat &#8211; they&#8217;re less likely to break this way. Wrap glasses individually and stuff them with rolled-up socks or paper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I used plastic wrap around drawers of utensils so I could just transfer the whole thing without having silverware everywhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And don&#8217;t forget to eat down your pantry and freezer in the weeks before moving! I had to throw out so much food because I didn&#8217;t plan ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Pack_Clothing\"><\/span>Pack Clothing<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vacuum bags were my absolute savior for packing clothes! They compressed everything down to like half the size, which saved a ton of space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For hanging clothes, I kept them on hangers and grouped them together with garbage bags. Just slip the bag over the bottom and tie it around the hangers at the top. Then you can hang everything right back up at the new place!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Ready_Appliances_for_Moving\"><\/span>Ready Appliances for Moving<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you&#8217;re taking appliances with you, they need special prep:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Refrigerator: Defrost at least 24 hours before and clean thoroughly<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Washing machine: Disconnect hoses and secure the drum<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dishwasher: Disconnect and let dry completely<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I made the mistake of not properly prepping my washer and ended up with a water leak in the moving truck. Not fun at all!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Keep_Essentials_in_Accessible_Boxes\"><\/span>Keep Essentials in Accessible Boxes<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Besides your &#8220;first needs&#8221; box, keep important stuff easily accessible:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Medications<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Valuable items and jewelry<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Important documents<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Electronics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Basic tools for reassembling furniture<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I actually kept these things in my personal vehicle rather than the moving truck, just to be extra safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Settling_Into_Your_New_Home\"><\/span>Settling Into Your New Home<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After all the chaos of moving day, the work isn&#8217;t quite done yet. But this part is kinda fun because you&#8217;re making your new space feel like home!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Unpack_Organize\"><\/span>Unpack &amp; Organize<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I know it&#8217;s tempting to just rip open boxes and throw stuff anywhere just to get &#8220;unpacked,&#8221; but try to be methodical about it. Start with the essentials:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Bedroom &#8211; so you have a place to sleep<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bathroom &#8211; so you can shower<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Kitchen basics &#8211; so you can make coffee and simple meals<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then tackle one room at a time instead of bouncing around. I made the mistake of starting multiple rooms at once and felt like I wasn&#8217;t making progress anywhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Give yourself time! I put pressure on myself to be fully unpacked in a weekend, but realistically it took about three weeks to get everything just right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Setting_Up_Utilities_and_Services\"><\/span>Setting Up Utilities and Services<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ideally, you scheduled these setups before moving, but if not, here&#8217;s what you need to handle ASAP:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Electricity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Water<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Internet and cable<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Trash service<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I scheduled my internet installation for the day after my move, and let me tell you, being without WiFi that first night was rough! Try to get your internet set up as early as possible if you work from home like I do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Clean_Your_New_Home\"><\/span>Clean Your New Home<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even if the previous owners or tenants cleaned before leaving, I still recommend giving everything a good scrub before fully unpacking. Focus on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Kitchen appliances<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bathrooms<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inside cabinets and drawers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Floors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Windows<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I spent about $50 on cleaning supplies and it was totally worth it to start fresh in a super clean space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Update_Your_Address\"><\/span>Update Your Address<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beyond the mail forwarding you set up before the move, now you need to update your address on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Driver&#8217;s license<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vehicle registration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Voter registration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Medical providers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pet microchip info<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most states require you to update your license within 30 days of moving, so don&#8217;t put this off like I did!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Get_Familiar_with_Local_Services\"><\/span><strong>Get Familiar with Local Services<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This was actually one of the most fun parts for me! Exploring my new neighborhood and finding:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The closest grocery store<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Good takeout spots<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pharmacies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gas stations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Parks and recreation areas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Coffee shops<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gyms or fitness centers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I spent my first weekend just driving around getting familiar with the area. Google Maps is great, but actually seeing places in person helped me feel at home much faster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Conclusion\"><\/span>Conclusion<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So there you have it guys, my complete relocation checklist based on everything I learned from my recent move!
